Last week, we were at an industry showcase hosted by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, who manufacture remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) systems, radars, electro-optic and related mission systems.
The showcase was organized to recognize UK companies that are contributing to the development of the MQ-9B SkyGuardian RPA, as well as in-service RPA such as MQ-9 Reaper and MQ-1 Gray Eagle. A variant of the new generation MQ-9B SkyGuardian has been selected by the Royal Air Force (RAF) for its Protector RG Mk1 program. In July, SkyGuardian became the first medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) RPA to fly non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean.
Abaco provides DO-178 and DO-254 certifiable computers that process flight critical functions for the Certifable Ground Control Station (CGCS).
“We have been working with our UK teammates to make the RAF’s procurement of MQ-9B a great success,” said Linden Blue, CEO, GA-ASI. “We are very pleased to have been joined by these great UK companies in the development of this important aircraft.”
