SBS Technologies Introduces Embedded Industry's First Conduction Cooled 3U CompactPCI Gigabit Ethernet Switch

WASHINGTON--SBS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:SBSE): Two switch versions for greater design flexibility and control:
  • 8-port 10/100/1000 BaseT Ethernet with Layer-2 connectivity
  • Unmanaged switches offer lower cost and easy installation
  • Conduction-cooled version with enhanced temperature protection
  • Economical air-cooled version for non-rugged applications Today at the AUSA Conference, SBS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:SBSE) continued its role as an embedded market leader by introducing the first 3U CompactPCI(R) Gigabit Ethernet switch that can be used in rugged, heat-sensitive environments. The CP3-GESW8 and CP3-GESW8N 8-port switches offer cost-effective high-speed network connectivity for both military and commercial applications. Designed for no-hassle Layer-2 Ethernet switching, these unmanaged Gigabit Ethernet switch boards require no host intervention or software or drivers, resulting in lower cost and easy installation and use. These switches have low power requirements and their 8 ports, accessed through the rear panel (J2 connector), make them ideal for applications requiring rear I/O. One Ethernet port can be accessed via a front panel RJ-45 connector if both front and rear I/O are needed. "Both of these switches offer system designers a great deal of versatility. The first-of-its-kind conduction-cooled version is optimized for harsh industrial and military environments where equipment is subjected to higher than normal temperatures," said Bill Molyneux, Vice President of General Purpose I/O Products. "These flexible switches allow connected devices to run at different Ethernet speeds so lower-speed devices won't affect the performance of higher-speed devices," continued Molyneux. On-board serial EEPROM is used for configuration of the switch's registers during power on initialization. The switch's advanced address management features include address learning and aging which allows high-speed non-blocking switch operation. About the CP3-GESW8 Compatible with 32-bit wide 3U CompactPCI buses, the CP3-GESW8 is designed to "keep it simple", giving a developer connect-and-go functionality. It does not require host CPU drivers, and because it connects only to the power and PCI reset signals, it is operating system independent and does not require host CPU drivers or host intervention. Ethernet 10BaseT, 100BaseTX and 1000Base T protocols are supported. About the conduction-cooled CP3-GESW8N The CP3-GESW8N delivers the same ease-of-use, features and functionality as the CP3-GESW8 plus enhanced environmental protection with conduction cooling and conformal coating. This switch has an extended operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. Price and Availability Pricing for the CP3-GESW8 starts at US$690.00 and the conduction-cooled CP3-GESW8N starts at US$1,950.00. Both switches are available now.
