Abaco Systems Launches the VP241 a SOSA Aligned 3U VPX FPGA Carrier Card Featuring AMD Versal™ Prime Series System-on-Module

Huntsville, AL, December 9, 2025 - Abaco Systems announces the VP241, a groundbreaking SOSA aligned 3U VPX FPGA carrier card designed to deliver unmatched flexibility for next-generation embedded computing applications.
The new VP241 uses a ground-breaking System-on-Module (SoM) processing core which gives system architects the freedom to explore different form factors using a common development framework. This approach allows application code reuse in different form factors including 3U VPX. Possible design considerations include placing the processing core as close to the sensor as possible for reduced latency or offering technology insertion in current or legacy systems that use different form factors. Also, the VP241’s rugged design allows it to operate reliably in harsh operating environments, including extended temperatures, humidity, shock and vibration. VP241 is optimized for:
- Electronic Warfare (EW): Real-time signal acquisition and processing for threat detection and countermeasures
- Radar Imaging: High-resolution radar systems requiring massive parallel processing and low latency
- Semiconductor Manufacturing: Accelerated metrology and inspection systems for defect detection
- Factory Automation: AI-driven control and predictive maintenance for Industry 4.0 environments
- Autonomous Vehicles: Sensor fusion and AI inference at the edge for navigation and situational awareness
- Communications & Networking: Secure, high-speed data links for telecom infrastructure
VP241’s SoM uses AMD’s powerful Versal Prime Series VM1502 or VM1802 adaptive SoC (System-on-Chip). The advanced SoC combines FPGA fabric, DSP processing cores, Arm cores and high-speed I/O interfaces within a single chip, which significantly increases processing density and capabilities within a very small footprint. VP241 supports up to 100GbE I/O on the data plane along with up to 200Gbps of optical data (aggregate). A FMC+ connector further expands its capabilities, enabling integration with wideband RF solutions such as Abaco’s FMC300, a multi-channel 7GHz high-sample, high resolution ADC/DAC card, or with optical I/O like the PAM4-capable FMC600 to transfer larger AI datasets. This combination provides developers with a powerful platform for data-intensive applications requiring ultra-low latency and high throughput in a single 3U VPX SOSA slot profile.
“Abaco continues to innovate by delivering modular, SOSA aligned solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers,” said Simon Collins, Director of Product Management at Abaco Systems. “The VP241’s Versal-based architecture and AI-at-the-Edge capability give developers exceptional flexibility to performance-drive systems with a built-in upgrade path as future application requirements evolve.”
Also available from Abaco is the RTM332, a SOSA aligned 100GbE Rear Transition Module (RTM) that fits VP241 and other SOSA aligned Abaco FPGA carriers designed to accelerate development and system interoperability testing.
