SBS Embedded Computers Introduces Flexible Pentium-Based VMEbus PC/AT Board

SBS Embedded Computers announces the availability of the PROTEUS, a Pentium-based VMEbus PC/AT board featuring dual PMC slots, processor speeds up to 300 MHz, up to 128 MB of EDO DRAM, and up to 72 MB of Flash Disk-on-Chip, all in a single VMEbus slot. The PROTEUS is part of a product family of Socket 7-based VME processor boards designed for flexibility to meet application specific requirements. "The PROTEUS is a new embedded concept based on a core board that offers a standard VME interface, a Socket 7-processor (K6 or Pentium MMX), memory, and basic PC/AT I/O functions," said Clarence Peckham, President of SBS Embedded Computers. "The two PMC slots are used to tailor the board to meet the needs of embedded applications, optimizing cost and performance. The modularity of memory and processors combined with the two PMC slots provide a versatile product that can be configured for use in a wide range of systems." Price and Availability
The PROTEUS is priced starting at $2,300 (OEM quantities of 100) and is available in June 1998. Call SBS Embedded Computers for various models and pricing. Additional Features
The VMEbus interface is implemented using Tundra's Universe II VMEbus Interface Controller. It provides a full VME64 interface including master, slave, interrupter, interrupt handler, and system controller functions. In addition, PROTEUS includes hardware byte swapping capabilities. Drive interfaces for the PROTEUS include an Enhanced IDE interface with bus-mastering capability and a floppy controller with DMA capability. The IDE and floppy interface signals, along with a serial port (COM1), are available through the VMEbus P2 for ease of connection with SBS Embedded Computers' VMEbus drive modules or with other external drive assemblies. Front panel I/O includes a serial port (COM2), parallel port (LPT1), and a combined mouse-keyboard port. A field upgradeable, flash-based, AT-compliant plug-and-play ROM BIOS is also provided. IBM PC/AT and VMEbus compatible, the PROTEUS supports a wide variety of off-the-shelf software packages developed for the PC architecture. Operating systems supported include Microsoftís MS-DOS, Windows, Windows 95 and Windows NT, as well as real-time operating systems such as QNX and VxWorks. About SBS Embedded Computers
