SBS Berg Telemetry Systems Introduces The Model 4419-P Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT)

SBS Berg Telemetry Systems announces the introduction of its new Model 4419-P Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT). The 4419-P is a single slot ISA-based board that comes with a complete Windows©-based graphical software package that provides automatic performance testing of key critical ground station components such as receivers, demodulators, and bit synchronizers. Unique features include an on-board calibrated noise source and an RMS meter which allow the user to measure signal and noise amplitudes without external test equipment, providing a completely self-contained bit error rate test solution. Convolutional encoding capabilities in the transmitted test bit stream allow realistic performance evaluations of data acquisition systems that utilize Viterbi decoders and receive satellite data that has been modified with forward error correction (FEC) techniques. "The addition of this powerful new capability to our broad line of telemetry solutions shows once again that SBS Berg is the leader in PC-based telemetry products," said John Reeser, President of SBS Berg Telemetry Systems. "The Model 4419-P is designed to be an integral part of your basic toolkit for testing the data acquisition performance of your entire ground station. It provides the user with a real-time graphical presentation of his ground station's ability to efficiently receive and process vital data in an increasingly cluttered signal environment." Price and Availability
The Model 4419-P is priced starting from $9,500 (list) and is available for immediate delivery. How It Works
The Model 4419-P determines bit error rates by transmitting one of a variety of pseudo-random patterns, then determining the number of errors in the received data. Both transmitted and received data can be TTL, RS-422, or ECL levels. The 4419's transmitter output is also available as an analog voltage (summed with noise) with the amplitude variable from 0.1 Vp-p to 5 Vp-p. The transmitter supports all of the popular IRIG codes, as well as convolutional encoding at rates 1/2 or 1/3. A controlled number of errors may be inserted, and inputs for baseline modulation and frequency modulation are provided. The Model 4419-P is fully tunable from 1 bps to 30 Mbps in 1 bps steps. There is an optional on-board noise source, calibrated from 1 KHz to 60 MHz +/- 1 dB, with a variable output amplitude. Local loopback automatic self-test capability is also provided to help ensure proper operation. About SBS Berg Telemetry Systems
