Radstone Technology the world’s leading independent supplier of rugged, high-performance, embedded computer products for defense and aerospace applications has been awarded a £950,000 contract from Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Radstone is to provide its latest processors for use in the MK 48 Advanced Capability (ADCAP) torpedo upgrade program. The ADCAP program is a joint development between the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), Portsmouth, RI and Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems. The MK48 ADCAP torpedo is the US Navy’s premier heavyweight submarine-launched torpedo and is widely recognized as the world’s most capable anti-submarine weapon. ADCAP is a wire-guided, thermal torpedo launched through the full submarine’s depth and speed profile. All US attack and ballistic missile submarines carry the MK 48 torpedo and this latest upgrade will increase guidance, control speed and memory, and significantly reduce radiated noise. Radstone’s G4DSP and PowerPC processors will enable Raytheon to take full advantage of the latest rugged Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) computer technology to achieve these advances. Commenting on the win, Peter Cavil; Radstone’s Managing Director said; “We are very pleased to be working with Raytheon and NUWC on this important program Radstone’s G4DSP rugged Digital Signal Processor is an ideal match to the requirements of the system. The announcement of its use on the ADCAP program is further demonstration of Radstone’s growing emergence as a major DSP supplier.” Radstone will begin delivering their processors to Raytheon in May 2003. - ends -
