GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms Announces $2.25 Million Lockheed Martin Order For Q-70 Program

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA   September 3, 2009: GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, a unit of GE Enterprise Solutions, today announced that it secured orders valued at approximately $2.25 million from Lockheed Martin’s facility in Eagan, Minnesota. The orders were for quantities of GE Fanuc’s VME-7809 VMEbus single board computer and NETernity™ RM921 Ethernet switches for eventual deployment in the Lockheed Martin AN/UYQ-70 C4 (command, control, communications and computer) system. This brings the total orders received by GE Fanuc from Lockheed Martin for the Q-70 program to more than $5 million.

Lockheed Martin Q-70 servers, workstations and network systems are widely used by the U.S. Navy on a variety of ships, aircraft and shore stations. They also are deployed on naval systems in Australia, Germany, Japan, Norway and Spain. The Q-70 was the first fully implemented standard combat computer system using open system architecture. The Q-70 team continues to upgrade these units with the latest commercial technologies. Through use of Commercial-Off-the-Shelf equipment and the implementations of a successful technology refresh program, Lockheed Martin has saved the U.S. Navy more than $1.5 billion over 15 years.

The Q-70 program demonstrates a high level of performance and reliability that improves communications and reduces complex network systems, providing a safer environment for the system operators.

“The U.S. Navy benefits from the performance, robust reliability and cost-effectiveness of solutions that GE Fanuc brings to programs like the Q-70,” said Peter Cavill, General Manager, Military & Aerospace Products at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms. “Our products are built on technologies and standard architectures that are well-proven in the harshest and most demanding environments. This kind of quality and reliability makes an important contribution to maximizing both the effectiveness and safety of military personnel around the world.”

The VME-7809 6U VMEbus single board computer features an Intel® Pentium® processor and up to 2 Gigabytes of memory. Support for dual Gigabit Ethernet controllers, two USB 2.0 ports and dual Ultra320 SCSI controllers is provided, together with two high performance 16550-compatible serial ports.

The NETernity RM921 is a VMEbus managed Gigabit Ethernet switch that supports IPv6. It is available with 12 (single slot) or 24 (dual slot) front panel Gigabit Ethernet ports, copper and/or fiber connectivity options, conformal coating, and an optional 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplink port.
