Advanced Targeting Forward-Looking Infrared (ATFLIR) Pod

The Raytheon ATFLIR system features state-of-the-art third generation mid-wave infrared targeting and navigation FLIR’s, an electro-optical sensor, laser rangefinder, target designator and laser spot tracker. Our single board computers operating in conjunction with our MIL-STD-1553B and fiber-channel PMC mezzanine modules form the electronic heart of this prestigious program. The complete pod resides on the US Navy’s Carrier-based F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Maritime Strike Attack aircraft designed and manufactured by Boeing. The use of our advanced technology has assisted in the consolidation of the original three-pod design into this single pod architecture, thereby realizing major improvements. These enhancements have provided the following program benefits:

  • Demonstrated continuous auto-bore-sight alignment enabling first-pass kill.
  • Four times improvement in target detection and recognition range allowing strikes from safer distances.
  • Integrated FLIR, IR and laser spot trackers, and laser designators provide multi-function targeting in virtually any scenario.
  • 66% fewer components and no high-failure items ensure increased reliability and maintainability.
