SBS Technologies Communications Group is introducing its revolutionary, Cascade&8482; 6U High Availability (HA) CompactPCI® System solution with MontaVista&8217;s Hard Hat Linux at SUPERCOMM in Atlanta, June 6 to 8. The Cascade HA system introduces a unique, scalable and flexible architecture to the world of high-performance embedded computing. Building upon its existing family of CompactPCI system products, Cascade is designed for demanding mission critical OEM telecom and networking applications targeting customers providing Central Office (CO) destined servers and/or target convergence systems. MontaVista Software&8217;s Hard Hat Linux provides the ideal platform for high-reliability applications in communications infrastructure. It combines high performance, hardware-based memory management and standard APIs, with broad microprocessor and board support &8211; all in a 100% pure Linux, royalty-free, open source package. &8220;SBS Communications Group&8217;s selection of MontaVista Hard Hat Linux as an embedded OS for their fault-tolerant, mission critical, high availability CompactPCI platform speaks to the stability and reliability that Hard Hat Linux brings to the embedded platform arena,&8221; comments Brian Grega, Vice President of Business Development and Sales at MontaVista Software. &8220;We are excited with the prospect of partnering with the SBS Communications Group to deliver this strategic platform to the telecommunications and networking market.&8221; &8220;We have and will continue to develop innovative system level CompactPCI products which provide the resilience and reliability that the telecommunications market expects and deserves,&8221; remarks Bret Farnum, President of SBS Communications Group. &8220;Introducing the Cascade HA system, a robust, telecommunications-specific platform with MontaVista Hard Hat Linux support, further demonstrates our commitment to the embedded communication systems market.&8221; The Cascade system is supported by dual SBS K2 High Availability CompactPCI single board computers based on the PowerPC 750 processor. Featuring a tightly coupled architecture with redundancy in CPUs, power supplies, fans, and alarm systems, the Cascade series of NEBS-compliant HA systems is designed to meet high availability five-nines (99.999%) up-time expectations. Several studies have shown that system failures occur most often via hard disk drives, followed by fans, power supplies, and CPUs. To ensure minimal downtime and prevent single failures, SBS&8217; Cascade system offers hot-swap capabilities. In addition to the basic system, SBS Communications develops and markets various I/O products, including enclosures, LAN adapters, WAN adapters, and backplane extenders, that enhance and complement the Cascade HA System. SBS Communications is strategically positioned as the only provider of a fault-tolerant, HA system offering the richest mix of WAN/convergence interface support from 56k to ATM-OC3 as well as enabling communications protocols such as PPP, HDLC, Frame Relay, ATM and SS7. Another added benefit of this new series of products is SBS Communications Group&8217;s ability and willingness to customize the systems based on the specific needs and requirements of OEM partners. Pricing and Availability Target list pricing for the basic system is $19,500 USD. Planned availability for basic system with MontaVista&8217;s Hard Hat Linux is September 2000.
