SBS Micro Alliance Introduces Model 904 Rugged Portable Pentium Computer System

SBS Micro Alliance announces the introduction of the Model 904, a portable Intel Pentium computer system designed for harsh transit conditions. The rugged unit is ideal for use in industrial, data collection, mobile field testing and computer telephony applications where a powerful portable computer is necessary. "At less than one cubic foot in size, the 904 is a very compact system," said Ed Larson, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "It has an 84-key keyboard with an integrated 19mm trackball. Fully loaded, each system weighs just 19 pounds. The case is made out of ABS plastic, which will not dent or corrode. It will withstand a 2,000-pound stacking load and the hinged lid has an integral gasket to meet severe transit conditions." Price and Availability
The Model 904 (17.5'W x 7.1'D x 10.6'H) is priced from $4,795 (list) and is available for immediate delivery in three to four weeks. Features
Unlike notebook computers, the 904 will accept up to three full length ISA or (optionally) one ISA and two PCI user expansion cards. It comes with a 10.4 active matrix TFT color LCD flat panel display (12.1 optional) which is protected by a Lexan shield. It includes a 200 MHz Pentium based plug-in processor card with 16MB of RAM. Each system comes with Windows 95 software. The Model 904 is equipped with a 4-slot ISA passive backplane, but can accommodate an optional PCI/ISA backplane with 2 PCI slots. It is equipped with two 3.5' shock mounted drive bays that are populated with a 1.44MB floppy and 2.5GB hard drive. An optional CD-ROM drive can be provided as an external device connected to the parallel port on the front of the unit. Both serial and parallel ports are mounted adjacent to the flat panel display. The LCD 1MB video controller card has an output for connecting to an external SVGA CRT monitor. A 150W power supply provides ample power to all cards. Positive pressure, filtered cooling is provided by three high efficiency, 2.25' ball bearing fans with a total of 75 CFM. Washable air filters are an integral part of the front panel doors and are easily removable. All electronics are shock and vibration protected. An adjustable card hold-down bar keeps the plug-in card in place under vibration and transit conditions. About SBS Micro Alliance
