Radstone Technology Extends Competitive Leadership With Announcement Of GBX16 Rugged Gigabit Ethernet Switch

World’s first deliverable ruggedized sixteen port layer 3 Gigabit switch features guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS), high performance design Continuing to demonstrate the strength of the company’s ability to understand and respond to the needs of its customers and to deliver leadership solutions to the market, Radstone Technology today announced the rugged GBX16 Gigabit Ethernet Switch card which represents a significant step forward in quality of service, performance and flexibility.  Evaluation samples are available immediately. Radstone Technology is the world’s leading independent supplier of rugged, high-performance, embedded computer products for defense and aerospace applications. “Not only does the GBX16 deliver the power, features and flexibility demanded by our customers, but it also responds to their need to have those capabilities today,” said David Compston, Business Manager for Netcomms Products at Radstone Technology.  “While our competitors have announced products that claim similar functionality, we are able to demonstrate fully operational boards – and deliver samples to our customers – today.  As such, we expect the GBX16 to be extremely well received.” The high performance VME form factor GBX16 Gigabit Ethernet switch provides sixteen 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ports.  It incorporates advanced management software allowing guaranteed bandwidth on a per port or per VLAN basis. Port aggregation allows multiple ports to act as a single trunk, or provides redundant ports for reliability within a network.  “By comparison with its competitors, we believe the GBX16 offers significantly lower latency, a fully non-blocking architecture, a broader range of ruggedization options and a more robust specification,” concluded Compston.  “Beyond that, customers have the assurance of a product backed by Radstone’s unique commitment to Whole Program Life COTS.” In fact, the GBX16 is a technology insertion upgrade for the GBX8, allowing customers to seamlessly and transparently take advantage of the GBX16’s additional functionality.  The GBX16 is fully integrated and provides management software running within the secure environment of VxWorks. As standard, the GBX16 incorporates Radstone’s Built-In-Test (BIT), which provides extensive and configurable testing of the GBX16 hardware.  It is also one of the first Radstone products to feature a web or telnet interface, secured by password, allowing remote access and management. The GBX16 provides maximum throughput and flexibility for demanding networks, with all the layer 3 features that customers require. The rugged GBX16 is ideal as a backbone for the GBX8 Gigabit switch or as the robust core of a demanding, all-Gigabit network.  The GBX16 layer 3 managed Gigabit switch provides both layer 2 and layer 3 switching functionality. Its high-performance design offers a comprehensive set of features including port trunking, broadcast storm protection, extensive VLAN support, IGMP snooping, Rapid Spanning Tree and link aggregation; and for Quality of Service, access control lists and bandwidth provisioning. Like all Radstone’s products, the GBX16 is available in a range of build styles, from Level 1 (standard), suitable for a benign office-like environment, right through to Level 5 (rugged conduction-cooled, temperature operating range -45ºC to +85ºC), capable of withstanding the harshest of environments.
