Overview
PMC696LC is an intelligent dual port 1000BaseSX Gigabit Ethernet NIC that sets a new standard for high performance data exchange. Two 1000Mbit Ethernet controllers are combined with a local RISC processor and PCI-X system. The result is a very high performance, extremely flexible solution to a variety of data transfer requirements. Designed using standard protocols (1000Mbit Ethernet and PCI/PMC), the PMC696LC is intrinsically economical, both in terms of direct unit cost and ability to utilize commodity LAN hubs and switches. The on-board RISC processor allows the PMC696LC to be used in a wide range of applications. In the simplest mode, all control can be kept in the system host with the PMC696LC providing dual Ethernet access. Other options include dual rail access, shere the choice of physical access is automatically switched by the PMC696LC fail-over or TCP/IP off-loading. The local processor has dedicated 64 MBytes of EEC DDR SDRAM. Users can add application-specific functionality to the on-board firmware, migrating appropriate control into the PMC696LC. We provide full software support for all the popular software environments (e.g. VxWorks, HPUX, LynxOS, Digital UNIX, Windows NT, Solaris etc.). Each driver is designed to maximize the utility of the PMC696LC within the existing context of the host operating system.
