GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms Announces High Performance Rugged 3U CompactPCI Solution

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA November 8, 2007 Demonstrating once again the company’s ability to deliver maximum functionality in the smallest space, GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms today announced the rugged CM6 3U CompactPCI single board computer. Featuring a Freescale™ PowerPC™ MPC8641 operating at up to 1.33 GHz with either a single- or dual-core processor, the CM6 supports up to 1 Gigabyte of DDR2 SDRAM ECC memory. Designed for applications including military/aerospace, tele-communications, simulation/ training and test and measurement, both system mode and non-system mode are supported. “CompactPCI continues to be a favored architecture in applications where high performance is required in a constrained space,” said Peter Cavill, General Manager, Military and Aerospace Products at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms. “The CM6 responds to this continuing demand by providing not only a powerful processing capability but also a unique set of functionality which places it at the leading edge of 3U CompactPCI solutions.” The CM6 derives its extensive functionality from a high degree of integration which sees the provision of two Gigabit Ethernet ports and two serial ports (RS232 and RS422/RS485) together with eight general purpose I/Os and Flash memory, thus freeing the user to leverage the capabilities of the 64-bit/100 MHz PMC interface for application-specific purposes. In either the single core or dual core version, AltiVec™ support is provided for advanced floating point applications. Each core is provided with its own Level 1 and Level 2 cache, allowing for a high degree of parallelism. To enable operation in harsh environments, the CM6 is available in three ruggedization levels with an extended temperature range of -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C and optional conformal coating. Shock and vibration immunity is designed in with stiffener bars and wedge locks: conformal coating can also be applied on request. Support for Linux® is available as standard: support for Integrity, LynxOS and VxWorks® is optionally available.
